Welcome

Rob Hogarth is a Sydney-based photographer whose work captures the unscripted, high-velocity energy of urban life and live music. Driven by a deep curiosity about people and the fleeting interactions of daily life, Rob navigates city streets and local venues with the same observant eye, capturing Sydney’s independent music scene.

On stage, his focus is entirely on capturing the true rawness of a performance. Rather than just shooting the spectacle, Hogarth hunts for the honest, defining moments of a set—chasing everything from quiet, introspective moments between songs to roaring vocals, thundering drums, and explosive guitar solos. It is a visual study of performers at their most authentic, freezing the split-second emotions that connect an artist to the crowd.

Special Thanks To:

  • Channelle Violette for curating and supporting me the whole way through

  • Sean from Albion Lane Production for giving me opportunities I’d never have imagined while constantly being one of my biggest supporters.

  • Alpha House Gallery for hosting me

  • All the wonderful artists who’ve let me capture them. Especially suitcase.cult who have let me learn so much of my photography with them.

  • Everyone who has ever given me a like or a share or a comment. I see them all, and appreciate everyone one of you.,

  • All the wonderful venues supporting live music whose events are featured here. Moshpit, Buddy’s Bar, The Landsdowne, and more. Plus the amazing Lazybones, who were very cool about the number of tables and chairs I rearranged around to capture some portraits.

As you move through the gallery, scan each QR code to find more information about the artist and maybe a fun story or two along the way.

For instance, standing here you will see the amazing Gordo the bucket drummer. A definite fixture in Pitt St mall and around. With nothing but a few 20ltr buckets and some drum sticks he creates an entrancing performance every week in sydney.

If you have a look to your right, in the midst of suitcase.cult boys you’ll see the amazing Elise from Follia. Captured in blue, surrounded by red. They’ve just released their debut single. In my view it’s incredible, and always takes me a minute when it rolls around in my spotify list to remember this is a local independent artist and not a top 10 global hit. Only a matter of time.
