Monico

'Monico' is the stage name of Isaac Monico Atienzo, a Sydney-based singer-songwriter and indie-folk/pop-rock artist. Having started busking on the streets of Sydney at age 15, he has grown into a well-known local fixture, blending moody acoustic storytelling with energetic live performances.

Monico’s sound draws heavily on the stylings of contemporary artists like Hozier, Noah Kahan, Gregory Alan Isakov, and Ed Sheeran. His vocal and songwriting style incorporates soulful folk hooks, moody lyricism, and occasional pop-rock elements reminiscent of Dire Straits.

While starting his career as a solo looping artist, 2025 saw the formation of a three-piece live act. He performs alongside his cousin Lachlan Dawson on drums/percussion and his friend Ben Garrigo on bass/rhythm guitar. Together, they have toured the local Sydney circuit and played at major events like the Tamworth Country Music Festival

Some people play music on stage, Monico performs

Every time I see Monico play either solo or with the boys, I’m left with a smile on my face and have had a thoroughly joyful time.

Some people play music on stage; Monico performs. The music is almost secondary to their ability to entertain, connect and make every minute on stage a performance. But never arrogant. Just a way that is warm, inviting and leaves you feeling like you were part of that gig, not just watching.

Recently their 16 bar challenge has gone viral on instagram with over 10million views. While most think it’s due to the challenge itself, I attribute most of the views to the fact that Lachie was not wearing a shirt.
